Welcome to our newsletter.

The focus of this issue of the newsletter is on listening and responding to people who use health and social care services, and working collaboratively with them to effect change.

We recently published two major Overview Reports which look back over our experience, as a regulatory body, of regulating centres for people with disabilities and children’s services in Ireland across a 10-year period.

10 year review of regulating disability centres launched

In November, we published a 10 year overview report on the regulation of residential disability services for over 9,000 people with disabilities.

The report set out the impact of regulation over that time frame, detailing our findings and learnings in the key areas of governance and management, a human rights-based approach to care, restrictive practices, safeguarding and protection, and general welfare and development, as well as reflecting on current and future challenges for the sector.

Results of sixth National Inpatient Experience Survey published

A record 12,367 patients took part in the sixth National Inpatient Experience Survey, sharing feedback on their experience of care in Irish hospitals. The survey revealed that the majority of respondents (85%) rated their hospital care experience positively, with 58% rating their care as “very good” and 27% as “good”.

The survey is part of the National Care Experience Programme, a joint initiative by HIQA, the HSE and the Department of Health.

Consultation underway on draft guidelines for the justification of medical radiological procedures

Our public consultation on draft guidelines for the justification of medical radiological procedures on asymptomatic individuals is open until 5pm on Wednesday, 18 December 2024.

National standards in focus at the European Parliament

Message from the CEO

Welcome to our October newsletter.

An important theme in this month’s newsletter is working collaboratively with key stakeholders to support improvements in the quality and safety of health and social care services delivery. This is one of our core values as a regulator. We value the collaborative partnerships that we have with a diverse range of stakeholders and the feedback that we receive from them about our work.

Over the past few months, we have been working on our Corporate Plan 2025-2027, which will set out our strategic direction, mission, vision and values and our strategic objectives.
