Expansion of remit and functions highlighted in our 2023 Annual Report

HIQA’s 2023 Annual Report, published in June, highlights the work undertaken to prepare for a significant expansion of the organisation’s remit into areas including International Protection Accommodation Services, and others connected to the Patient Safety (Notifiable Incidents and Open Disclosure) Act 2023 and the Human Tissue (Transplantation, Post-Mortem, Anatomical Examination and Public Display) Bill (2018).

Welcome to our newsletter. 
As we move into the summer months, it is a good opportunity for us to reflect on what we have achieved, as well as to look forward to the new challenges and opportunities ahead.
In June, we published our 2022 Annual Report which highlighted the wide range of work that HIQA undertook last year. In this newsletter you will find an infographic that provides a snapshot of some of the key facts and figures from last year. 

HIQA publishes 2022 Annual Report

In June, HIQA published its annual report for 2022, outlining its role in working to improve the quality and safety of Ireland’s health and social care services. The report outlines how HIQA resumed full inspection and monitoring activities due to the relaxation of public health restrictions, and how providers, staff and service users all settled into the ‘new normal’ of post-pandemic life.

HIQA’s Annual Report 2020

We have published our annual report for 2020, outlining how the organisation responded and adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The report outlines how we regulated health and social care services, developed evidence and advice for the National Public Health Emergency Team, and continued to fulfil our remit across other functions such as making recommendations on health information, developing standards for care and promoting quality improvement.
