These are the first ever national standards for home support services in Ireland and they aim to drive improvements in the provision of home support services, so that people have the best outcomes possible.

Safeguarding people using services, and upholding their human rights, is a core component of what we do in HIQA. This is reflected in our 2021 Annual Report, published earlier this week, and through our work in the National Inpatient Experience Survey, regulation of disability services and the development of National Standards for Homecare and Support Services, as outlined in this issue.
We continue to advocate for improvements in homecare services, and have published a review of Irish and international evidence on homecare to inform the development of national standards.
Reform of homecare services is needed to ensure that people receive the care they need in the place of their choice.
