Welcome to our newsletter.

The focus of this issue of the newsletter is on listening and responding to people who use health and social care services, and working collaboratively with them to effect change.

We recently published two major Overview Reports which look back over our experience, as a regulatory body, of regulating centres for people with disabilities and children’s services in Ireland across a 10-year period.

Welcome to our October newsletter.

An important theme in this month’s newsletter is working collaboratively with key stakeholders to support improvements in the quality and safety of health and social care services delivery. This is one of our core values as a regulator. We value the collaborative partnerships that we have with a diverse range of stakeholders and the feedback that we receive from them about our work.

Over the past few months, we have been working on our Corporate Plan 2025-2027, which will set out our strategic direction, mission, vision and values and our strategic objectives.

Welcome to our June newsletter.

I want to begin this edition of our newsletter with a word of thanks to our many stakeholders who have worked with us throughout the year. We recently published our 2023 Annual Report which provides a detailed review of our activities and achievements during last year. Critical to our success in 2023 was effective collaboration with key stakeholders, listening to the voices of those who use services and publishing our work.

Welcome to our April newsletter.
During 2023, significant work was undertaken to prepare for the monitoring of International Protection Accommodation Service centres. This month, we published the first of our reports into these centres. The reports showed varying levels of compliance, and we saw some evidence of good compliance against standards in specific centres. The reports also highlighted significant areas for improvement by a number of service providers to ensure that their centres meet the standards consistently.

Our first HIQA News of 2024 reflects the wide array of work that we have been engaged with during the first two months of the year. This included important reviews and assessments in the area of health policy, inspecting and monitoring health and social care services, promoting the rights of people using services, such as through marking International Care Day and much more.

Welcome to our newsletter.

Engaging with our stakeholders is a priority for HIQA, from those who use health and social care services, right through to service providers, other public sector bodies and members of the Oireachtas. Throughout September and October we have met with many of our stakeholders, to listen to them and to discuss HIQA’s role, remit and activities.

Welcome to our newsletter.

The importance of good governance and management is amplified through all of our monitoring inspections both in healthcare and social care. Inspection reports published this year for health and social care services clearly highlight the link between having good governance and the delivery of safe, effective services.

Welcome to our newsletter.

Promoting a rights-based approach and ensuring that the voices of service users are heard, are core values for HIQA.  The role of advocacy is central to the delivery of these values and it is for this reason that advocacy is to the forefront of this Spring edition of our newsletter.
