Message from our CEO

Welcome to our newsletter.

Promoting a rights-based approach and ensuring that the voices of service users are heard, are core values for HIQA.  The role of advocacy is central to the delivery of these values and it is for this reason that advocacy is to the forefront of this Spring edition of our newsletter.

The fundamentals of Advocacy in health and social care

Advocacy is a key part of the role of all health and social care staff in Ireland. Advocacy is about supporting and empowering people to communicate their will and preference, securing their human rights, or representing their interests. It ensures person-centred care by placing the person at the centre of any decision-making about their lives and their care.
