Message from our CEO

Welcome to the 50th edition of our newsletter.

Across the years and 50 issues, we have remained committed to not only working to improve the quality and safety of health and social care services, but also to keeping the people who use, provide and fund services informed about our work. This commitment is set out in our recently published Corporate Plan for 2022-2024.

Governance and management requires improvement in disability services

Earlier this week, we published an overview report on our inspection findings in residential centres for people with disabilities in 2021.

During the year, we carried out 1,220 inspections, finding that the majority of centres provided a good standard of care and support to people with disabilities. However, the findings highlighted increasing non-compliance with oversight and management of centres.

Corporate Plan 2022-2024

We have published our Corporate Plan 2022-2024. The plan outlines our key objectives for the next three years and sets out the steps we will take to fulfil our vision of safer services and better care for all.

Pride 2022

Supporting diversity and inclusion is important to us, both within Ireland’s health and social care services and for our own staff.

In June, with thanks to our Diversity and Inclusion Working Group, HIQA celebrated Pride. For the first time, HIQA was represented in the Dublin Pride Parade, showing our support for the LGBTI+ community.
