Message from the CEO

Phelim Quinn, HIQA CEO

Welcome to our newsletter. We are pleased to publish our new corporate plan this week, which outlines our ambitious agenda to drive safety and quality in Ireland’s health and social care services.

As set out in the plan, we are focusing our work on areas of risk and collaborating with other organisations on key issues such as safeguarding, the implementation of standards, involving citizens in our work, and developing an increased evidence base for the work that we do and the impact that it has on our health and social care services.

Welcome to the latest edition of HIQA News.

We have had a busy start to 2019. In the past few weeks the Minister for Health signed the Statutory Instrument for governing the regulation of medical exposures to ionising radiation, giving HIQA powers to regulate public and private healthcare facilities for the first time.

With his depth of governance, regulatory and health-related expertise, Dr O’Mahony’s appointment will be hugely beneficial to the future strategic direction and success of HIQA and comes at a key time when we are developing a new three-year corporate plan. We welcome the guidance and experience that Dr O’Mahony will bring to HIQA as our remit continues to expand.

This week we have also commenced a public consultation on our draft Corporate Plan for 2019–2021.
