Engaging with our stakeholders is a priority for HIQA, from those who use health and social care services, right through to service providers, other public sector bodies and members of the Oireachtas. Throughout September and October we have met with many of our stakeholders, to listen to them and to discuss HIQA’s role, remit and activities.
We were pleased to address the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health in recent weeks to discuss our work and role in health and social care.
The majority of designated centres for people with disabilities provided a good standard of care and support, according to our 2022 overview report of the inspection and regulation of designated centres for people with disabilities.
Our rapid health technology assessment found some evidence that the use of continuous glucose monitoring systems in adults with type 1 diabetes led to improved average blood sugar levels for people compared with the traditional self-monitoring finger-prick test.
We took part in the 18th annual Guideline International Network (G-I-N) Conference in Glasgow last month. This event provides a platform to present the findings of research conducted to support national clinical guidelines and research in furthering guideline methodology.
We were pleased to take part in the Smart Health Summit in Dublin this year. In a panel event, Dr Kevin O’Carroll, HIQA’s Standards and Technology Manager discussed how the full value of our investment in eHealth can be unlocked, and explored the theme of data standardisation and digitisation.
Members of our team have been attending a variety of conferences over the last number of months, and used these opportunities to discuss and exchange ideas with national and international colleagues. For example, attending the recent National Patient Safety Office and European Social Network conferences among others.
Our stakeholder engagement calendar became busier as we moved into Autumn, with a number of in-person seminars taking place along with several webinars.
Our national electronic Database of Statutory Notifications is the central part of a new collaborative research project between HIQA, the HSE and South East Technological University (SETU).
On 1 September, we signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Dental Council to formalise current and future cooperation between both organisations.
