We took part in the 18th annual Guideline International Network (G-I-N) Conference in Glasgow last month. This event provides a platform to present the findings of research conducted to support national clinical guidelines and research in furthering guideline methodology.

HIQA was well represented throughout the conference, where evidence synthesis researchers, methodologists and guideline developers came together to learn and share from each other’s experiences while fostering collaborations and exchanging best practices. Members of our Health Research Board Collaboration in Ireland for Clinical Effectiveness Reviews (HRB-CICER) Team delivered three oral presentations during the two days, one from Shelley O’Neill, Deputy Director and two from our academic collaborative partner at the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI), Melissa Sharp. Barrie Tyner, one of our health technology assessment analysts delivered a poster presentation.

HIQA staff members and Dr Holder Shumann are photographed standing in front of a presentation screen.
Shelley O’Neill, Dr Holger Shumann, Dr Ilse Verstijnen and Marge Reinap took part in a health decision making workshop during the conference.

Professor Holger Schumann from McMaster University, the incoming Chair for the G-I-N organisation, led a workshop focused on health decision making, which was facilitated by Shelley O’Neill. This work is a continuation of the work conducted by the GINAHTA Working Group, which is a joint activity between the International Network of Agencies for Health Technology Assessment (INAHTA) and G-I-N that is convened to explore standard methods and to facilitate collaboration and shared learning across the health technology assessment and guideline communities.
