Highlighting the voices of residents in disability services

Listening to the voice of residents living in services for people with disabilities is particularly important so that we can amplify what matters to them in terms of their lived experience both in residential and community based settings. This was highlighted in June with the publication of our Residents Forums Reports 2022 – 2023 and when a group of residents took some time to come and visit our office.

New study into average radiation doses received by public

Alongside our colleagues in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we have published a new report assessing the radiation exposure received from medical exposures, our diet and environmental exposures.

The Ionising Radiation – National Dose Report assessed the average radiation doses received by the Irish population.

The assessment, carried out jointly by HIQA and the EPA, found the average dose remains similar to that found a decade ago in a 2014 report.

National Inpatient Experience Survey open until 31 July

The National Inpatient Experience Survey is well underway across the country and we are encouraging those who are eligible to take part to do so before the survey closes on 31 July. This nationwide survey is taking place in all public acute hospitals in Ireland and it offers patients the opportunity to share their recent experiences in hospital to help us to improve hospital care.

Message from the CEO

Welcome to our April newsletter.
During 2023, significant work was undertaken to prepare for the monitoring of International Protection Accommodation Service centres. This month, we published the first of our reports into these centres. The reports showed varying levels of compliance, and we saw some evidence of good compliance against standards in specific centres. The reports also highlighted significant areas for improvement by a number of service providers to ensure that their centres meet the standards consistently.

Results of first National End of Life Survey released

The results of Ireland’s first National End of Life Survey show that the majority of participants believed that the care their loved ones or friends received in the last days and months of their life was ‘very good’.
Over 4,500 bereaved family members and friends took part in the survey.
