In September, we hosted SINC, the International Innovation Network for Health and Care Regulators, for a two day conference in Dublin.

The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Health and Social Care Regulation in a Rapidly Changing World: Adapting to remain relevant and add greater societal value, while also supporting our staff through this change.’

The event, hosted at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre, offered a unique opportunity for several health and social care regulators from across Europe to gather and share their work.

Speaking about the conference, HIQA’s Director of Healthcare Regulation, Sean Egan said: “Hosting the SINC Conference allowed us to welcome our colleagues from across Europe and not only share our work, but listen and learn from their research and experiences. It truly was an insightful.

“I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who attended and made the event possible.”

The discussions ranged from sharing quality improvements to Artificial Intelligence considerations for our approach to regulation, to innovation in whole system inspections.

Several of our staff members were involved in chairing sessions or presenting across the two days.

Chief Inspector of Social Services, Carol Grogan, chaired the ‘Innovation in whole system inspections’ session while Deputy Chief Inspector of Social Services, Finbarr Colfer, chaired the ‘Regulating health and social care at the dawn of the AI revolution – considerations for adapting our approach and realising benefits for the way that we work’ session.

We would like to thank everyone for attending and contributing to what was an excellent opportunity for international colleagues to share their experiences and learnings with each other.
