The National End of Life Survey is now underway. The survey is the first national survey of its kind in Ireland and asks bereaved relatives about the care provided to a family member or friend in the last months and days of their life. The purpose of the survey is to learn from people’s experiences of end-of-life care in order to improve the services provided both to people who are dying, and to their loved ones.
Approximately 9,000 individuals who registered the death of a family member or friend that occurred between 1 September and 31 December 2022 are being invited to participate in the survey. The first survey packs issued in the post in March to eligible survey participants who registered a death that occurred between September and October 2022. The second round of survey packs will go out in the post in May to eligible survey participants who registered a death that occurred between November and December 2022. The survey can be completed online or by returning the questionnaire provided in the survey pack.
The findings of the survey will be used to identify what works well and where improvements are needed in end-of-life care and inform national policy, standards and monitoring programmes.
