National Maternity Experience Survey

Pictured at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street to promote the survey are Joan Regan, Principal Officer, Department of Health; Professor Shane Higgins, Master of the National Maternity Hospital; Mary Brosnan, National Maternity Hospital’s Director of Midwifery and Nursing; Phelim Quinn, HIQA CEO: Paul Reid, HSE CEO; Kilian McGrane, National Programme Director Women and Infants, HSE and Marita Kinsella, Director of Patient Safety Office.

All women who give birth this month will be invited to take part in Ireland’s first ever survey of maternity experience in early 2020.

Women aged 16 years or older who give birth in October 2019 (and November in smaller maternity units and for homebirths) will be invited to participate and tell us about their maternity experience. All responses will be used to improve Ireland’s maternity services.

This month we are visiting all 19 participating maternity hospitals and units to inform midwives and other hospital workers about the survey.

The survey is being run by the National Care Experience Programme, a partnership between HIQA, the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Department of Health.
