Over 25,000 patients from 40 public hospitals in Ireland will be asked to take part in the National Inpatient Experience Survey and tell us about their recent stay in hospital this month.
All patients aged 16 years and over who spent 24 hours or more in hospital and were discharged during the month of September are eligible to take part.
The survey is a joint initiative from HIQA, the Department of Health and HSE. It is the largest survey of its kind in Ireland and offers patients the opportunity to share their experiences in hospital and tell us what improvements they believe are necessary. Responses to the survey will be used to improve hospital care in Ireland.
This year’s survey includes additional questions asking people about their experiences in hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as staff communication while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and contact with family and friends given visitor restrictions.
Taking part in the National Inpatient Experience Survey is easy. Eligible people will receive the survey in the post before the end of October. The completed survey can then be returned in the included Freepost envelope, or it can be completed online using a unique code provided on the postal survey.
