We continue our work to assess whether eHealth services within the HSE are compliant with HIQA standards, with a review currently underway of the National Electronic Referrals Service.

General practitioners (GPs) in Ireland can refer patients to hospital outpatient departments electronically. Currently, over 30% of all GP referrals to hospital outpatient departments are sent electronically. The National Electronic Referrals Service was prioritised as HIQA’s first eHealth service review. We will be conducting our first on-site visit in 2020.

The Review Programme aims to drive quality improvements by identifying areas of good practice and areas where improvements are necessary across eHealth services. Find out more at www.hiqa.ie.
