We have appointed two new members to our Executive Management Team to lead on the regulation of health and social care services in Ireland.
Carol Grogan has been appointed to the position of Chief Inspector of Social Services within HIQA, and will be responsible for the regulation of social care services in Ireland. Sean Egan has been appointed as Director of Healthcare Regulation, a new position which reflecting the organisation’s growing remit under the Patient Safety Licensing Bill and as a Competent Authority in regulating medical exposure to ionising radiation.
Carol Grogan said: “I am delighted to take on the role of Chief Inspector and build on the significant achievements in driving quality and safety of care across social services since HIQA’s establishment. The past 18 months in social care have been particularly challenging, and the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for urgent reform of how Ireland’s health and social care services are regulated. As Chief Inspector, I will continue to advocate for the need for regulatory reform to better safeguard the people using services, particularly the extension of HIQA’s remit to regulate homecare services.”
Sean Egan said: “This is an exciting time for the organisation as HIQA’s remit continues to expand as the regulator of patient safety and medical exposures to ionising radiation.
“I look forward to working with the Government to progress the implementation of monitoring and regulation in public and private healthcare, and to ensure HIQA has adequate powers of licencing and enforcement in order to safeguard the people using healthcare services.”
